AWS has added Cluster Mode to Elastic Beanstalk, running applications on EKS clusters the service creates and operates. Clusters are assigned by subnet set and cannot be changed afterward, direct cluster access is service-managed, and AWS recommends separate clusters for untrusted or regulated workloads. The mode adds EKS and Auto Mode fees that EC2 discounts do not reduce. By Steef-Jan Wiggers
Google has open-sourced AX, an orchestrator designed for managing autonomous AI agent workloads. AX operates on a runtime, Agent Substrate, treating agents as stateful actors. It provides resource-efficient task suspension and resumption to optimise performance and reduce latency in idle phases. It features a control plane with Kubernetes-style primitives for managing agent tasks and resources. By Olimpiu Pop
GitLab has expanded GitLab Duo Self-Hosted to support models deployed through Microsoft Foundry, letting organizations run GitLab's AI development capabilities against models hosted in their chosen Azure environment. By Craig Risi
David Gudeman discusses battle-tested architectural patterns for resource-constrained engineering teams. Drawing from over a decade of startup experience, he explains how pairing GCP, Firebase, and Cloud Run accelerates product-market fit. Learn how to eliminate redundant frontend state, structure event-driven backends, and maintain lean DevOps while building for long-term scalability. By David Gudeman
Changesets v3.0, released on August 11, 2026, introduces significant updates for JavaScript monorepos. It offers leaner installations, a rebuilt CLI, and changes to peer dependency management that resolve long-standing complaints. Upgrading involves configuration updates. The tool focuses on versioning and changelogs while supporting contributors in declaring release intents. By Daniel Curtis
Out-of-order HTML streaming, a user experience pattern popularized by front-end frameworks and that allows users to view and interact faster with a page before it is entirely loaded, is making its way to web browsers. The proposal has the browser patching placeholders as data arrives. Developers can use either declarative HTML or matching JavaScript APIs. Available in Chrome 151. By Bruno Couriol
This week's Java roundup for September 14th, 2026, features news highlighting: the GA release of JDK 27, LibericaJDK 27, Open J Proxy 1.0 and A2A Jakarta 1.0; point releases of Azul Payara, JHipster, JetBrains Ktor and BoxLang; and introducing Netflix ja, a modern JMS command line development experience for Java developers. By Michael Redlich
Uber has redesigned shard placement in M3DB with fixed size subclusters to limit the impact of node failures, maintenance, and cluster scaling. The approach bounds shard dependencies, preserves replica isolation, and uses a greedy algorithm to select shard migrations while avoiding a separate rebalancing pass and unnecessary data movement. By Leela Kumili
Cloudflare has introduced the Agent Development Lifecycle to enhance AI-driven engineering. The approach replaces the traditional SDLC, addressing bottlenecks in testing, deployment, and maintenance. Key components include automated software factories, dynamic orchestration, advanced observability, and a security model for autonomous agents, aiming for more efficient software management. By Olimpiu Pop
OpenAI’s Vinoth Govindarajan discusses why production AI agents fail beyond model hallucination. Using real-world case studies like OpenClaw, he explains the key principles of reliable agent harnesses: establishing explicit state ownership, serializing concurrent state mutations, scoping execution authority, and validating actions at the user-visible edge. By Vinoth Govindarajan
In this episode, Sahil Agarwal talks about the critical challenges of identity, authorisation, and security in the age of AI agents. Sahil introduces the DPACT framework (Delegation, Policy, Auditability, Context, and Time) as a blueprint for building responsible, guardrailed agentic systems, moving away from simple token-based access toward bounded, delegated authority. By Sahil Agarwal
This article examines the limitations of conventional personalization systems and highlights the need for a governance-first architecture. It emphasizes separating relevance from governance to ensure recommendations are context-aware, auditable, and compliant. The architecture integrates stateful memory, policy-driven AI orchestration, and explainable scoring to enhance personalization systems. By Jerald Selvaraj
